I dunno who told you they’re rockabilly but whoever they are was completely wrong. Calling Canned Heat rockabilly is a massive insult to the band.

This song and the songs Billy did around this were so classic and loving to a certain type of American music. There are many types of classic American music, i.e., jazz. This was in no way negating those influences, but paying tribute to the songs our parents and grandparents grew up with. Very well executed. A love song to doo-wop.

Listen to Fela Kuti and you will hear their influence. David Byrne actually ended up helping to get Fela out of prison. Long story, but the main influence for this period of the talking Heads is 1970s west African music.

Written and first recorded by the vastly underrated, Big Don Gibson, this song was Don's first single release and #3 Country hit. Patsy was the third recording. Patsy's phenomenal record producer, OWEN BRADLEY, applied a little pressure to Patsy to record the song and to accept his lush versio, with the Jordanairres providing background vocals and 12 violinists taking the music to an out-of-this-world level. Floyd Cramer was on piano, Grady Martin on guitar. Patsy DIED ONE WEEK before the finished album and single were released. The CRY clearly heard in Patsy's voice was real. She was a very emotional, dramatic woman, who had left her husband, was probably going to leave him again, and had survived and overcome a horribly disfiguring automobile accident.
